App name: MDB
Developer: Saket Narayan
MDB is a local-first Android app that scans your device storage to help you organize and play your movies and TV shows. Your media library and personal data remain on your device. MDB never uploads, sells, or shares your media files.
Information collected
a. Media information (derived locally)
MDB scans your device storage to detect video files. The app:
- Reads filenames and media metadata locally on your device.
- May send derived titles (for example, “Inception 2010”) to The Movie Database (TMDB) to fetch artwork and metadata.
- Never uploads or transmits the actual files, file paths, or personal information.
b. Crash and diagnostics data
MDB uses Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) to collect anonymous crash reports.
Crash reports may include:
- A random installation or device ID (used to group crash events)
- App version, OS version, and basic device model information
This data helps identify and fix bugs and is not used for advertising or profiling.
Data Sharing
MDB does not share personal data with any third parties. TMDB and Firebase act only as service providers, processing data on behalf of MDB to deliver metadata and crash reporting features.
Data Retention
- Media information is processed ephemerally and never stored off-device.
- Crash reports are retained by Firebase for diagnostic purposes in accordance with Google’s standard retention policy.
Your Privacy Choices
MDB does not currently provide an in-app setting to disable crash reporting. If you prefer not to send crash data, you can stop using the app and uninstall it. MDB may add an in-app toggle in a future update and will reflect that here.
Third-Party Services
MDB integrates with:
- The Movie Database (TMDB) — for fetching posters and metadata
- Firebase Crashlytics — for crash reporting
These services are governed by their own privacy policies.
